Vol. 3: How did you become your current self?

As a queer artist, how do you become your true self when so many other voices surround you?

In this video, Freya shares how she makes space for her inner voices, honors them, and allows them to speak. She reflects on distinguishing between what serves “the system that benefits from me being small” or what serves someone else, but not ourselves. To embrace a new version of ourselves, many “sacrifices” must be made, and it is always worth it.

“I’m always the one who heals and sings to myself first, then it goes out. I feel like there is a sculpture I’m chipping away at to find the shape of myself, and I’m getting closer every day. You lose things, but only those that were never truly you.”

“Being yourself allows you to know who is on your team and who is not, as soon as possible. The people who remain are your champions. I need to honor myself, and no one else is going to do that for me.”
