Vol. 10: “We are the first to heal ourselves”: Freya on creating healing through her art

Continuing our Pride Month 2025 🌈throwback series, Freya @freya.berkhout shared her unique perspective on songwriting and creativity. She describes the process as becoming almost egoless, a channel through which music and messages can flow.
Freya believes that once a piece of music is released, it belongs to whoever listens to it. Gentleness and healing are qualities she actively seeks in her creative work. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she recognizes that simply being ourselves can sometimes be met with resistance.
Through her music, she hopes to offer a sense of acceptance and comfort, creating space for others to feel seen, understood, and connected. In that way, healing becomes something that begins within herself and continues outward to whoever may need it.
